Roosevelt was the most frequent rider in the stately limousine with its strong, round lines. The car accompanied Roosevelt to dramatic diplomatic meetings in Yalta, Teheran, Casablanca and Malta. Its convertible roof gave the busy president a chance to enjoy the sun and he nicknamed the car the "Sunshine Special". Prseident Harry S. Truman also used this Brunn-bodied limousine after succeeding President Roosevelt.<br><br>The car features bullet-proof tires, two-way radio, sirens, a firearms compartment and a red light. Kennedy was riding in Dallas on November 22, 1963. It is part of a powerful image burned into the memory of many Americans. Even if you are too young to remember when Kennedy was assassinated, you have probably seen pictures of this car when it was a blue convertible in the bright Dallas sun.<br><br>That event totally reversed the trend towards visibility that had guided presidential car designers since World War II.<br><br>In 1964 the car underwent a major reconstruction including a new engine, titanium armoring, five-layer multiplate bullet-proof glass, new communications system, a complete retrimming of the rear compartment, and a permanent "greenhouse" top.<br><br>This Presidential Limousine has been used by five American presidents - John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, and Jimmy E. Carter.
